Midland County Court-at-Law #2 has jurisdiction of all causes and proceedings, civil and criminal, original and appellate, prescribed by law for county courts. County Court-at-Law #2 has concurrent jurisdiction with the District Court in family law cases and proceedings, and civil cases in which the matter in controversy ranging from $501 to $500,000 excluding interest, statutory or punitive damages and penalties, and attorney's fees and costs.
In matters of concurrent jurisdiction, county court-at-law judges and district court judges may exchange benches and courtrooms and may transfer cases between their dockets.
County Court-at-Law #2 has, concurrent with the county court, probate jurisdiction.
County Court-at-Law #2 handles cases involving adult criminal misdemeanors, juvenile offenders, probate matters including guardianship actions and mental health cases, and family law cases.
