Support of Executive order GA-34 on opening texas
Midland, March 3, 2021: Midland County Government will follow and support the Executive Order GA-34 that will become effective Wednesday March 10, 2021.
As Texans we just celebrated our 185th year of independence on March 2nd. To me, opening up Texas is the right decision. Texas is not the only State that is opening up, we are not even the first State to do so. I trust that we as society have the ability to decide what is the right thing to do, not only for our own wellbeing but for the wellbeing of our fellow Texans. As Texans we value our freedom and the responsibility that comes with that freedom.
When it comes to Midland County I am, without a doubt, confident that our citizens and businesses will make educated and responsible decisions based on facts, when it comes to our community’s public health. The CDC still recommends that we continue wearing masks and social distance. I encourage all citizens who have not received a vaccination to please consider scheduling one.
I have not bought into the phrase that “wearing a mask is the new normal”. It was intended to be a temporary protective measure to help save lives. With the various types of vaccinations and the ability to get vaccinated I feel that it is time to start looking at getting back to our “actual, pre-COVID normal”. Our community has seen a continued decrease in COVID related hospitalizations for numerous weeks. We will continue to monitor the health of our community as we move forward. We continue to provide vaccinations to the public along with assistance to various partners and organizations during the COVID response.
The Unified Command Team continues to operate and meet the challenges this crisis has caused and any others that may follow. With the help of the public, private sector, and public sector we will continue to win the battle against this pandemic.
Due to current State Supreme Court order, the actual Courthouse will remain a Mask only facility until April 1st or until further notice.
