The Midland County Judiciary has cancelled jury trials for the remainder of 2020. This decision was reached after careful review of the current COVID-19 data for Midland County and concern for the safety and welfare of the citizens of Midland County. The Judiciary is hopeful jury trials will resume in early 2021. In the interim, all trial proceedings will be conducted in accordance with the Midland County Judiciary Second Emergency Order.
On a different matter, summons will be mailed shortly for the empanelment of grand juries for the 142nd, 238th, 385th and 441st District Courts for the term beginning January 1, 2021. This process is separate and distinct from conducting jury trials and is essential for the criminal justice system next year. The safety plans previously developed and implemented by the Judiciary will be strictly followed during the grand jury procedure.
