MCPL partners with foundation, local businesses to highlight value of library cards

One card, one community - a world of opportunity

Midland County Public Libraries (MCPL) will celebrate Library Card Sign-Up Month to encourage lifelong literacy and community empowerment. Throughout September, MCPL cardholders may show their MCPL library card at several local businesses for a special discount. To further promote new library card applications and to encourage active library card users, MCPL will hold a drawing for library cardholders to win prizes including a gift certificate from Hogan Golf Course, a $50 gift card and candy bouquet from Fountatinville Creamery and Soda Fountain, a Kindle Fire HD provided by the Midland County Public Library Foundation

New cardholders will automatically be entered into the drawing upon registration. All new and active cardholders will receive one entry per use, per card, per day upon checkout of library materials from any MCPL location. The recipient will be drawn and notified during the first week of October 2021. See Midland County Public Library’s website for the complete rules.

MCPL has partnered with several Midland businesses to offer exclusive discounts upon presentation of a Midland County library card. These offers vary by business. Participating businesses include:

  • Marble Slab Creamery
  • The River Fine Arts
  • Tall City Brewing Co.
  • Popbar
  • Shipley Donuts
  • Nothing Bundt Cakes
  • Wagner Noel Performing Arts Center
  • Museum of the Southwest
  • Kendra Scott
  • Cpl Ray’s Coffee
  • Buttermilk Sky Pie Shop
  • Mac’s Bar-B-Q

By providing a special discount during Library Card Sign Up Month, these businesses help the library to highlight the economic value of a library card. MCPL library cardholders who check out one adult book and one children’s book each month save nearly $350 each year. If the same cardholder also used a computer for three hours and attended four children’s programs, the savings would be almost $415.

About Library Card Sign Up Month

September is heralded by the American Library Association as Library Card Sign-Up Month with the goal to empower community members to utilize their library resources. Started in 1987, Library Card Sign Up Month is celebrated in September to coincide with the beginning of the school year, when librarians across the nation help students and families sign up for library cards.
