The Midland County Medical Examiner’s Office plays a critical role in determining the cause and manner of death. Led by Dr. Ganta, MD, the Medical Examiner is responsible for overseeing the investigation of deaths, which includes:

In addition, the Medical Investigators support the Medical Examiner’s work by gathering crucial information about the decedent’s medical history. Their responsibilities include:
- Collecting medical records, including medications, radiology reports, and laboratory results
- Preparing bodies for autopsy and facilitating their transport
- Working closely with law enforcement, funeral homes, and medical professionals to obtain accurate and comprehensive information
- Coordinating with Southwest Transplant for potential organ donation
- Collecting specimens, tissues, fluids, and blood for toxicology testing to help determine the cause of death
