Terry M. Luck

Precinct 1
Title: Precinct 1 Judge
Judge Terry Luck

Professional & Educational Background
I have been a Midlander for 36 years having moved here in 1981 from El Paso, Texas to work for
the Midland County Sheriff’s Department. I have been a police officer for over eight years in El Paso,  Odessa, and Midland. I completed a Bachelors Degree in 1983 at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin and some work toward a Masters Degree in Secondary Education.

After getting my degree I went to work as a State Parole Officer briefly in the Odessa and Midland areas and then became a probation officer in Midland County for almost five years. I ended my service for the county at that time as the Director of the Midland County Restitution Center (hallway house for the probation office) in 1990.

I then went to work for the Federal Courts as a Probation Officer in Pecos, Texas for about one year and then transferred back to Midland as a Federal Pretrial Services Officer serving the local Federal Courts for the next 19.5 years and retired in 2010.

Career as Justice of the Peace
After being retired for almost five years, I felt called to seek the position of JP and was appointed
to fill the unexpired term of Judge Joe Matlock, who had retired. I was appointed as Justice of the Peace on August 31, 2015 and began this fulfilling position on September 1, 2015. I ran for this position in 2016 and was elected to finish Judge Matlock’s unexpired term and look forward to working on into the future.

Hobbies & Personal Life
I am married and have three children and three step-children and 18 grandchildren. I am a Christian and enjoy doing mission work in local and foreign lands, having served briefly in Nicaragua once and numerous times in Honduras and Poland.

I attend Living Way Church in Midland. I am a sports fan (mainly baseball) and enjoy riding motorcycles. I have enjoyed this adventure as Justice of Peace and look forward to continuing to serve the residents of Midland County and Precinct One.
