The Born to Read program is sponsored by the Midland County Public Library Foundation in partnership with the Midland County Public Libraries, Midland Health, and the Permian Basin Area Foundation.

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, "Reading regularly with young children stimulates optimal patterns of brain development and strengthens parent-child relationships at a critical time in child development, which, in turn, builds language, literacy, and social-emotional skills that last a lifetime."

The Library at the Plaza and Centennial library locations offer several programs to support early literacy skills for both children and their caregivers, including regular story times, the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten challenge, and the Family Place workshops. Born to Read is for children ages 1 to 5. Each month, the Libraries will host a Born to Read Birthday Party for the children who celebrate their birthdays during that month, and each child participating will receive a free book!

These celebrations take place on the third Thursday of each month at 12:00pm, immediately following the Downtown Toddler Tales storytime. For more information, please contact the Children's Department at (432) 688-4323.
