Borrowing Materials

Anyone with a Midland County Public Library card may visit a library location and browse the selection of fiction and nonfiction books, audiobook CDs, DVDs of movies and TV shows, and even Ukuleles. Present your library card to the circulation desk or use the Self-Check stations to scan and deactivate your items, then grab your due date receipt.

Request Materials & Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

Items not owned by MCPL may be requested to purchase or borrowed from another library through our Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service. ILL is a service that is free of charge, except on the occasion that the lending library charges a fee or postage is required. Library users must agree to these charges prior to ordering. To request materials for purchase or through ILL, please visit the Request Materials page.

How do i place a hold?

Hold requests let MCPL circulation staff know that you would like to be placed on a list to receive a specific item. When a hold item is available, you will receive a notification via phone call, text, or email. You may adjust these settings through your online account.

To place an item on hold:

  • Use your library card to sign in to the online catalog. Search for the item(s) you would like to hold, and in the search results, select Place Hold under the title. Select your preferred pickup location and submit the request.
  • Call the library at (432) 688-4320 to speak with a staff member. Please be sure to have identifying information so staff are able to locate your requests as quickly and efficiently as possible.

How do I return materials?

All library materials may be returned to the Downtown Library or to the Centennial Library. Both locations have drop boxes available 24 hours a day. Materials may also be returned to the Bookmobile while it is open.

MCPL does not charge late fees for overdue items. A temporary block will be placed on all accounts with overdue items. Once the items are returned, the block will be removed and all borrowing privileges will be restored. For more information, view our Loan Policies.

How do I Renew Materials?

All library materials are allowed one renewal. Materials that have a wait list for other cardholders may not be renewed. If after the renewal period, a cardholder would like to continue borrowing an item, MCPL requires that the item be returned for at least 24 hours before being checked out again.
